Each week in class we will work on strengthening our technique on our instruments while also working on the fundamentals of music. This is where you will find information about what we are working on in class.
K/1 Strings: Right now in K/1 Strings we are working on learning the notes on the D string. (D, E F#, and G) We are practicing the correct posture with playing pizzicato (plucking) and with the bow. The correct bow hold takes a long time to perfect. We are working on creating a nice, steady tone with our bows.
2/3 Strings: Right now in 2/3 Strings the beginners are working on learning the notes on the D string. (D, E F#, and G) We are practicing the correct posture with playing pizzicato (plucking) and with the bow. The correct bow hold takes a long time to perfect. We are working on creating a nice, steady tone with our bows. The intermediate students are strengthening their bow technique as well as sharpening their reading skills. We are focused on learning to read the notes on the D and A string without any finger numbers or markings.
This week we are beginning our first full orchestra piece "D Major Overture."
4/5 Strings: The 4/5 orchestra is busy preparing for "The Nutcracker." We are really focused on not just learning the pieces but checking for correct intonation and adding expression. This week we are working on finishing "Russian Dance" and the beginning of "Dance of the Reed Flutes." In order to be ready for the big performance we should be practicing both in class AND at home often.
