Each week in class we will work on strengthening our technique on our instruments while also working on the fundamentals of music. This is where you will find information about what we are working on in class.
K/1 Strings: Right now in K/1 Strings we are working on learning the notes on the D and A strings We are practicing the correct posture with playing pizzicato (plucking) and with the bow. The correct bow hold takes a long time to perfect. We are working on creating a nice, steady tone with our bows.
2/3 Strings: Right now in 2/3 Strings the beginners are working on learning the notes on the D and A strings. We are practicing the correct posture with playing pizzicato (plucking) and with the bow. The correct bow hold takes a long time to perfect. We are working on creating a nice, steady tone with our bows. The intermediate students are strengthening their bow technique as well as sharpening their reading skills. We are focused on learning to read the notes on the D and A string without any finger numbers or markings. We have also introduced sharps and naturals. (We are learning about all the notes BETWEEN the finger tapes!)
This week we are working on Old Joe Clark, which introduces C natural.
4/5 Strings: The 4/5 orchestra is busy preparing for the Spring Concert. We are working on building technique- practicing new bow techniques (like slurs and staccato) and more difficult key signatures. We are focusing on building good practice habits so that at home we are playing frequently and using the time in an effective way.
